Treatment step by step

  1. 1

    Examination and planning

Consultation, X-ray and a 3D scan if needed. We assess the jawbone and draw up a treatment plan with a price.

  2. 2

    Preparatory treatment

If needed, we first treat the gums and teeth or perform bone grafting. The area must be healed before the next step.

  3. 3

    Implant placement

The titanium screw is placed in the jawbone under local anaesthesia. The procedure is quick and you go home the same day.

  4. 4

    Healing

The implant fuses with the bone over a few months. Meanwhile you can have a temporary tooth if needed.

  5. 5

    Healing abutment and impression

After healing we place a healing abutment, shape the gum tissue and take an impression for the permanent tooth.

  6. 6

    Follow-up

We check the result and agree on regular visits. Good oral hygiene keeps an implant going for decades.

Frequently asked questions about implants

What is a dental implant?
An implant is a titanium screw that replaces the root of a tooth. A crown, bridge or denture is attached to it. The result looks and works like your own tooth.
Is an implant suitable for everyone?
It suits most people. What matters is your general health, the condition of your gums and the amount of bone. We assess this at the consultation with an X-ray or a 3D scan.
How long does the treatment take?
Usually three to eight months, because the implant needs time to fuse with the bone. We give a more precise time in the treatment plan.
Does implant placement hurt?
The procedure is done under local anaesthesia and there is no pain. The area may be tender for a couple of days afterwards, and ordinary painkillers are enough.
What if there is too little bone?
Then we first do bone grafting or a sinus lift. It is a routine preparatory procedure and we do it at the same clinic.
How long does an implant last?
With good care and regular check-ups, for decades. Daily oral hygiene and hygienist visits matter most.
